Before tourists discovered Santorini, it used to be an underprivileged due to the shortage of water and its volcanic grounds. The inhabitants of the island where forced to have many jobs in order to be able to survive. One of the most important recourses of the inhabitants of the island was the unique wine of Santorini. Most of the families owned their own grapevines at the lowland and in the villages their kanaves.
The kanaves were large underground chambers where they prepared the wines and put the wines into barrels. Respecting the tradition and the architecture of the landscape, we converted the kanaves of our ancestors into special places where one can spend and enjoy his holiday. This is Konaki. During the Turkish empire Konaki meant house of a Greek nobleman of the village and later on they used this word as a synonym for the word house in general.
This makes Konaki a guesthouse with tradition. It consists out of 3 apartments and 4 studios and is located in the middle of the best part of Oia. It is situated exactly above the picturesque harbor of Armeni. So, Konaki offers you a spectacular view of the volcano and of the unique kaldera of Oia which you can enjoy being at the private terrace of our guesthouses.
