We stayed at Lava Oia's for 3 days and it was awesome. We had a very
romantic and charming traditional cave house that consisted of a large
sitting area with a day bed and table, a bedroom, a fully equipped
kitchen, and a bathroom. Ours was also the house furthest down the cliff
so it was very private and quiet. We had a completely unobstructed view
of the caldera from our balcony with lounge chairs and an umbrella. We
also had a covered porch sitting area where we had breakfast every
morning. There are blooming flowers everywhere. It's just a very special place
to stay. The only con's about this hotel, which didn't bother me at all,
is that there is no pool and there is no A/C although a fan is provided.
The hotel is within a short walking distance to local markets, shops, and
restaurants.
The other thing that makes this hotel so special is the owner. She was
so welcoming and sweet. I felt like I was staying at a relative's
house. Upon arrival, the first thing that she did was clip some fresh
flowers from outside and put them in a vase on our table for us. We told
her what we wanted for breakfast the night before and she had it waiting
for us the next morning at our house. I especially liked the warm
croissants and the fresh squeezed orange juice. While talking to her I had
mentioned that I didn't know how to get to the bus station or which bus
to take upon returning to Athens and without even asking her to do so,
she made some phone calls, and got all the information we needed. You
just don't come across great service like this everyday.
On both sides of this hotel are two very well know, expensive, luxury
hotels. I'm sure we had a much better experience than the people staying
there did, with the same amazing view, but for a much better price.
I wouldn't hesitate recommending this hotel to anyone and would
definitely stay there again.
